Markham + North York, Ontario

Cleartone Hearing Centre and Avenue Hearing Clinic are seeking a Hearing Instrument Specialist (HIS) to join our team. This position will be working closely with Ear Nose and Throat specialists. We are open to both full time or part time position, working between our Markham and North York locations

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Complete audiological assessments
  • Hearing instrument evaluations and follow-up
  • Hearing instrument fittings and dispensing
  • Hearing instrument rechecks
  • Assistive Listening Device recommendations
  • Able to verify and validate hearing aid fittings using verification equipment
  • Cerumen management
  • Client follow-up
  • Counselling and Aural Rehabilitation
  • Assist with walk-in patients

Education and Experience:

  • Registered with AHIP
  • Interest and/or experience with hearing instrument dispensing
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Cantonese speaking will be an asset

Due to the demographic boundaries with large number of Chinese population, and large number of Cantonese-speaking patients, Cantonese speaking HIS will be an asset.

Hearing Instrument Specialist
Flexible Position: 3-5 Days Per Week

Echo Audiology is a bilingual clinic, locally owned & operated by an experienced Audiologist. The clinic was built around the Patient experience, using a medical & friendly approach to the practice. As the second clinic in Canada to be designated as a Person-Centered Clinic by the Ida Institute, Echo Audiology has set a high standard in patient care. From 2022 to 2025, the clinic has also been honored with the Ottawa Awards for Best Hearing Specialist and received the 2022 Gem of Innes Award for Best Personal Services Business, which highlights the trust they’ve earned within the community. In addition to hearing health services, Echo Audiology fosters collaboration with a range of healthcare professionals to best help their patients. Situated within the same clinical space as NewU Physio, they work alongside physiotherapists, a CM acupuncturist, and a myofascial therapist, providing patients with a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to health and wellness.

We are looking for a dedicated Hearing Instrument Specialist to join our team to provide high quality care to our patients, all within a supportive work environment that prioritizes work-life balance.

Qualifications:

  • Graduated from recognized Hearing Instrument Specialist Program
  • Registered and in good standing with applicable regulatory college or provincial governing body
  • Clinical experience is preferred
  • English proficiency required (spoken, written, and reading)
  • French proficiency an asset (spoken and reading)

Main Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Taking the lead in managing hearing aid patients
    • Fitting, programming & adjusting hearing aids
    • Cleaning, maintaining, troubleshooting and in-house repairs of hearing aids
    • Educating/counselling patients on hearing aid use/maintenance, connectivity, and communication strategies
    • Informing the team on new hearing aid updates
    • Overseeing and managing the flow of hearing aids & product orders (incoming, outgoing & quality checks)
  • Cerumen removal consults (curetting & irrigation) & related counselling
  • Earmould consults
  • Hearing assessments for renewal of hearing aids/recommendations of hearing aids
  • Clinical measurements as required (ex: Otoscopic/Videotoscopic exam, Tympanometry, DPOAEs, Hearing Screening, REM, etc)
  • Working alongside the team of Audiologists & Clinic Assistants for best patient outcomes in their acoustic rehabilitation

Clinic Information:

  • Schedule:
    • Clinic weekday schedule: M 9-6  T 9-6   W 9-5   Th 9-5   F 8-1:30 (9-12 to Patients)
      • Schedule flexible from 3-5 days for the right candidate within the hours of the clinic
    • 1-hour scheduled lunch, regular staff meetings & dedicated time for administrative work

We are currently seeking an experienced Hearing Instrument Specialist to work out of our Barrie location.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Quickly undertake Audiometric Assessments, and patient counselling.
  • Help and perform ear-mold impressions, Hearing Aid programming, Dispensing, repair & maintenance
  • Assist patient with Insurance claims, ADP grants, and complete necessary paper work.
  • Maintain impeccable client files & records

Your Qualifications:

  • Completed college diploma for H.I.S/H.I.D
  • Member of AHIP with Liability Insurance
  • Eligibility/registration as ADP Authorizer.
